PTA Family Fun Night Fundraiser

Happiness lies in the joy of achievement
and the thrill of creative effort.

One of my favorite hobbies is quilting. I spend a lot of time piecing quilts, always planning on keeping one of them for me, yet always ending up giving the quilts away. On a cold and snowy day in February, I decided to piece a small lap quilt...just for fun. In discussion with my class we decided to donate this quilt to our PTA for a very special project that will benefit our school and community.

Our PTA has been working diligently to raise money for new playground equipment. There have been many fundraisers along the way. One of the big fundraisers occurs as part of PTA Family Fun Night. Silent auctions are held on many, many items, one of which will be the quilt donated by our class, the STAR Students in Room B-67! It's going to be soooooo much fun!

First the students read a short piece about this project that was written to them by me. Next, we filled out a graphic organizer to gather our thoughts relative to what we wanted to say in our letters. Then, we wrote persuasive letters to the PTA informing them of what we'd like to do, and asking them if they'd like our quilt as a donation for the silent auction. Click on the picture of Emma to read her letter!

We waited anxiously for a response to our letters.  The response we got was more than we ever expected. The president and vice-president of the PTA paid us a visit. They had some ideas that they wanted to run by US. We couldn't believe our ears! They wanted to know:

bullet   #1  Would we be willing to let the PTA sell chances for the quilt on Grandparent's Day,
meaning it would be displayed in the foyer of Cuyler?  Our response...YES!

bullet   #2  Would we be willing to let the PTA sell chances for the quilt on the night of the Budget vote?
        Our response...YES!

bullet   #3  Would we allow Mrs. Durocher to make the raffle tickets?  Our response...YES!

bullet   #4  How much would we like the raffle tickets to be sold for?  Our response...We trust what you
        decide for this!!

The children are very excited! Their major part in this project will be to spend time tying the quilt so that the layers are held together. The quilt is on a quilt frame in our classroom and the children are eager to get started. Prior to delivering the quilt we will sign our names to the back so the lucky winner will know the generous students who worked to help their school and local community.
