Our
Halloween Party!

We had such a great
Halloween this year. It all started with a Halloween Parade on a beautiful
70-ish fall day! Parents were everywhere and the children looked stunning in
their Halloween costumes. The parade ended in the gym where each class made
a grand entry and the children sang Halloween songs. Both Reader of the
Month and Citizen of the Month awards were given, as well as prizes for the
Halloween estimating contest.
Classroom fun began
the moment we entered the room. We decided to take a Walk for Fitness along
the new course to start earning miles for our class. Upon returning to the
classroom we shared treats...not a single trick...and spent a fair amount of
time painting pumpkins. Here are some photos of our day! |
Pumpkin Math

What better way to learn about measurement than to have some fun with
pumpkins! The week was filled with learning about units of measure (inch,
foot, centimeter, ounce, pound), using a ruler, scale, and tape measure,
estimation, addition, subtraction, comparing numbers using greater than,
less than, and equal to, and use of correct labels and vocabulary terms.
The children learned
to work in cooperative partnerships as they traveled to the weigh station,
height station, and circumference station. They measured and weighed and
checked and rechecked. They followed directions as they traveled from
station to station and were enthralled with the fun of it all. The data
collection sheet was one that required them to really read, think,
understand, and do. It was challenging and everyone had a blast!
