Chang An Grand Hotel

Boy were we tired when we finally arrived at the hotel. Can you imagine being on an airplane for almost 15 hours? That's how long you are in school for 2 days!

This is the hotel we stayed at in Beijing.

This is the view from our hotel window. Beijing is very polluted and we rarely saw the sun. There is a lot of construction going on.

Please note the writing at the top of this hotel receipt.
City Sights

Beijing is China's second biggest city and it is a very busy city. It is the capital of China. Beijing is located in the northeastern part of China. There are many things to do in Beijing. You can go to the opera, ballet, theater, movies, acrobat shows, museums, and zoos, to name just a few things.

The winters are dry and cold, and the summers are hot. January is the coldest month. It can get to -5 degrees! The population of Beijing is about 12 million people. The population of New York City is about 8.2 million.

There is a lot of traffic, people walking the streets, and vendors selling things everywhere. In addition to many, many cars and buses, you also see people riding on bicycles EVERYWHERE!!!! Bicycles ride along the streets intermingled with motorized vehicles. It is amazing to watch how skilled the drivers are...and how scary it is to be a passenger in a car! We were always holding our breath and closing our eyes!

It was very interesting to see the merchants, lined along the streets, doing calisthenics and exercises prior to starting their work day. They chanted in unison and were smiling and having a great time. Seems like a great way to start the work day.

Beijing has been the capital of China for more than 800 years.
