China

People

More than one billion people live in China. Though there are many dialects, or forms of the Chinese language, Mandarin is China's official dialect. It is used in schools and businesses. The Chinese write with characters, or symbols, rather than letters. Each character stands for a word or an idea. There are more than forty thousand Chinese characters.
