Accounting: 3-ring binder with loose-leaf paper, calculator, and pen/pencil.

AP Biology: 5-subject notebook and/or 2-inch binder with dividers and loose-leaf paper, two composition notebooks, one graphing notebook, a Scientific calculator, one pack (12 count) of colored pencils, pens and pencils and a bulk eraser.

AP U.S. History: 3-ring binder, dividers, pens and higher, loose-leaf paper.

APEX Courses: 2 or 3” three-ring binder.

Algebra: 3-inch 3 ring binder, folder, pencils/pens, and a ruler.

Algebra II: One 3” three-ring binder with loose-leaf paper, pens/pencils, graph paper (4 squares per inch), Texas Instrument TI-nspire graphing calculator is recommended, and two folders.

Band: Reeds, cork grease, valve oil and slide grease for applicable instruments, pencil, Rubank Advanced Methods Vol. 1 for Specific Instruments.

Calculus & Pre-Calculus: 2” 3-ring binder, pens, and pencils.

Career & Financial Management: One 1 ½” binder, loose-leaf paper, pens, pencils and pocket folder.

Career Readiness: 5-tab dividers, 1 ½” 3-ring binder, 2” 3-ring binder, colored pencils, pens, pencils, dry-erase markers, and two folders.

Chemistry (Regents/Conceptual/AP): Two 3-ring binders, scientific calculator, pens, pencils, colored pencils, loose-leaf paper, graph paper, 3 quart-sized Ziploc bags.

College Economics: pens, paper, and a charged Chromebook every day.

College Psychology: Spiral notebook, pens, paper, and a charged Chromebook every day.

College Statistics: One 5-subject notebook or one 3 to 4 inch 3-ring binder with loose-leaf paper, Texas Instruments TI 83 or TI 84 or IT-nspire graphing calculator is recommended and pens/pencils.

Consumer Math: Notebook, pencils, eraser, scientific calculator.

Consumer Math 2: Notebook, pencils, eraser, scientific calculator.

Creative Writing: 3-ring binder, pens and pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, and notebook paper.

Earth Science (Regents): Black pens, #2 pencils, box of colored pencils, large eraser, 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, and a scientific calculator.

English 9: Notebook, folder, pens, pencils, headphones.

English 10: Notebook, folder, pens, pencils, highlighters, loose-leaf lined paper.

English 11: 1 ½+” 3-ring binder, blue or black pens, pencils, highlighters (different colors), loose-leaf paper, and index cards.

English 12: 3-ring binder, pens, pencils, and notebook paper.

College English 101/102 & AP English: 1 ½+” 3-ring binder, blue or black pens, pencils, highlighters (different colors), loose-leaf paper

English Lab: 2 pocket folders, pencils, index cards.

Environmental Science: Sturdy folder, loose-leaf paper or 1-subject notebook, composition notebook, pens and pencils.

Financial Foundations: Pens/pencils, 2” 3-ring binder.

Geometry: 2” 3-ring binder, compass, ruler, pencils and erasers, highlighters.

Global Studies I: Pens, loose-leaf paper, and a charged Chromebook every day.

Global Studies II: 2” 3-ring binder, pens (blue or black), and highlighters.

Government/Economics: Pens, loose-leaf paper, and a charged Chromebook every day.

Graphic Art: Sketchbook, pen and five pencils.

Health: Notebook and/or folder, pens/pencils.

Music Appreciation & Music Theory: Notebook, folder and pencils.

Physical Education & Conditioning: Sneakers, shorts and/or sweatpants, t-shirt and long-sleeved shirt or hoodie (optional).

Physics: One five-subject notebook or three-ring binder for loose-leaf paper, book cover, scientific or graphic calculator, pack of colored pencils, pens/pencils, eraser.

Robotics: 2-inch 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper and a sketchbook.

Spanish II & III: Loose-leaf paper, spiral notebook, pencil/pen, folder, colored pencils.

Spanish (201/202- College): Supplies from previous classes, loose-leaf paper, spiral notebook, pencil/pen.

Technology Classes: One folder and pencils/pens. This is for EACH Technology Class students are enrolled in.

AP & U.S. History: One 2-inch binder, pens and highlighters.

Video Game Design: 2-inch 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, and a sketchbook.

It is the philosophy of the Red Creek Central School District that extracurricular activities are considered an integral part of a student’s educational development.  Participation in these activities is a privilege.  Students should strive to reach their full potential with support systems available to help achieve this end.  This eligibility policy applies to all students in grades 6-8 and emphasizes the importance of academics in order to participate in extracurricular activities.  The intent of the policy is to help motivate students to pass their courses and/or to put forth academic effort.

Procedures for Determining Ineligibility

For Eligibility purposes the school year will be divided into eight (8), five (5) week eligibility periods.  The restricted list is cumulative for each ten (10) week marking period.  At the five (5) week progress report time, only grades from the current five weeks are used.  

All students who receive a grade lower than 65, must receive a comment outlining their eligibility status.  Comment 105 “Student is ineligible for the next five weeks”, or Comment 106 “Student is failing but has received a “T” for trying and is still eligible.”  Students who receive comment 105 for two or more subjects OR the same subject for two consecutive grade report periods will be declared INELIGIBLE.

Ineligible students will:  

• Stay at school during 10^th period (2:25 – 3:15) at least one time each week for each ineligible subject  
• Only be released to the library with a pre-signed pass
• Not be permitted to attend or participate in any extra-curricular events or clubs during affidavit period.

Ineligible students enrolled in extra-curricular activities (Athletics or Drama) will:

• Be permitted to practice but not compete/perform during the first affidavit period
• Not be permitted to practice if they do not earn a “T” after each affidavit period
• Support their team by sitting on the bench during all scheduled contests, but not in uniform

 

T for Trying – is an effort based mark given by any teacher to a student that has below a 65 grade in any particular class, but is meeting the “T” criteria.  To receive a “T” students must:  

• Stay after school at least one time during 10^th period per week with each subject on their ineligibility list  
• Have turned in all missing, late, back assignments, and lessons during the current marking period
• Come prepared for class each day with their Chromebook, writing utensils, and class materials
• Use a Google Form to track their eligibility progress.  

 

Ineligible students will have two opportunities during each 5 week grade report to earn a “T”.  

Ineligibility list comes out; 1 week later students can earn a “T”, and then at the 3 week mark students who earned a “T” must have continued to demonstrate effort.  Students who did not earn a “T” at the 1 week mark have another opportunity to earn a “T” at the 3 week time.

A passing final year average in a class will make the student eligible the next school year.  A “T” for trying in any course will nullify a failing grade for that subject.

Appeal Process (only incomplete report card grades or extenuating circumstances may be appealed).  *PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST FIRST MEET WITH THE STUDENT’S TEACHER BEFORE INITIATING AN APPEAL.

1. Cuyler Elementary will have full representation on the Literacy Review Team. All Cuyler Elementary classroom and special education teachers will participate in the curriculum review work and writing.
2. Cuyler Elementary will insure there is at least one monthly communication from the building level to all parents.
3. Cuyler Elementary will purchase classroom books using a grade level decision.

Children, within each classroom, have a wide range of abilities. This makes it necessary, from time to time, to group students for various subject areas or activities according to ability and performance.

Homework does have a role in the educational experience of a child in the elementary school. It may take many forms; it does not have to be a paper-pencil task. Homework could involve watching a television program, reading a newspaper article, interviewing a person, observing the sky at night, or collecting items to bring to school. Homework assignments are at the discretion of the individual teacher. Parents may wish to check with their child's teacher regarding homework.

Along with regular reporting and observation of student performance, conducted by teachers throughout the year. The District also uses other tools to evaluate students. New York State tests are administered in the Spring for grades 3rd-5th ELA and Mathematics. Grade 4 in Science. Parents are notified prior to testing.

Building on the best of existing state standards, the Common Core State Standards provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards clearly demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level, so that every parent and teacher can understand and support their learning.

The standards are:

1. Research and evidence based
2. Clear, understandable, and consistent
3. Aligned with college and career expectations
4. Based on rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills
5. Built upon the strengths and lessons of current state standards
6. Informed by other top-performing countries to prepare all students for success in our global economy and society

According to the best available evidence, the mastery of each standard is essential for success in college, career, and life in today’s global economy.

Report cards are used to reflect the teacher's evaluation of student progress. Parent/teacher conferences are held in the fall and in the spring. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers at any time to arrange additional conferences.

The Red Creek Central School District shall comply with the provisions of the "Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974". Under its provisions, "parents/legal guardians and non-custodial parent(s), whose rights are not limited by court order or formal agreement, of a student under eighteen (18), or a student eighteen (18) years of age or older, have a right to inspect and review any and all official records, files, and data, including all material that is incorporated into each student's cumulative record folder and intended for school use or to be available to parties outside the school or school system and specifically including, but not necessarily limited to, identifying data, academic work completed, level of achievement (grades, standardized achievement test scores), attendance data scores on standardized intelligence, aptitude, and psychological tests, interest inventory results, health data, family background information, teacher or counselor ratings and observations, and verified reports of serious or recurrent behavior patterns".

A parent of a student under 18 years of age or a student 18 years of age or older shall make a request for access to that student's school records, in writing, to the Superintendent of Schools, Guidance Counselor or Principal. Upon receipt of such request, arrangements shall be made to provide access to such records within a reasonable period of time.

Parents and students are also entitled to an opportunity for a hearing to challenge the content of such records, to ensure that they are not inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the privacy or other rights of students, and to provide an opportunity for the correction or deletion of any such inaccurate misleading, or otherwise inappropriate data contained therein. Any questions concerning the procedure to be followed in requesting such a hearing should be directed to the Superintendent.

Student records and any material contained therein which is personally identifiable, are confidential and may not be released or made available to persons other than parents or students without the written consent of such parents or student. There are a number of exceptions to this rule, such as other school employees and officials, and certain state and federal officials, who have a legitimate educational need to access such records in the course of their employment.
