A Taste of College: Red Creek High School Students Explore Early College Opportunities

Red Creek High School students and their families recently had the opportunity to learn more about dual credit and early college pathways during an information night held at the school.

The evening featured a student panel sharing firsthand experiences, along with presentations from the FLCC Early College Scholars Program, Red Creek teachers who offer dual credit and Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the CiTi BOCES Distance Learning program. The Distance Learning service provides both synchronous and asynchronous courses in partnership with local college institutions, expanding access to specialized subjects.

Red Creek offers a robust selection of dual credit courses taught by Red Creek instructors at no cost to students and families. Course offerings include, but are not limited to, statistics, biology, language and composition, psychology, history, Spanish, business, physical education, photography and music appreciation.

Students can also access additional no-cost learning opportunities through distance learning pathways in areas such as health sciences, criminal justice and advanced manufacturing. More information about these options is available at CiTiboces.org/DistanceLearning.

The FLCC Early College Scholars Program provides another pathway for students to earn college credit through courses offered directly by FLCC, with scholarship opportunities available.

“We hope the evening gave students and families a ‘sample’ of the ways they can begin their college journey while still in high school,” said Jennifer DeVinney, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “We’re proud to offer these opportunities and grateful to the staff and partners who help make them possible for our students.”

Students and families are encouraged to connect with the school’s guidance office to learn more about these and other opportunities designed to help students get a head start on college and career success.
