Business Pitch Competition 2024

Business Pitch Competition 2024

On November 14, Wayne County Economic Development hosted the finals of its 6th annual business competition. Among the attendees were aspiring entrepreneurs from Red Creek High School, eager to witness innovative ideas across diverse industries.

The competition featured contestants vying for a $20,000 grand prize, with a $5,000 “Business Booster” award for the runner-up. The event provided an inspiring glimpse into the entrepreneurial journey, particularly valuable for students preparing for their own business pitch competition in the spring.

Drumlins Brewing Company claimed the top prize with its gluten-free brewing concept, emphasizing locally sourced ingredients and niche market expansion. The “Business Booster” runner-up award went to WorkHer Wear, a minority and woman-owned business in Ontario creating workwear tailored for women in trades, with plans to expand into automotive and metalworking industries.

Other competitors included:

  • Calm-N-Core: A fitness initiative for aging senior citizens.
  • Virtue 340B: An auditing service for pharmaceutical companies and outpatient healthcare providers.
  • Piney Woods Campsites: A seasonal camping enterprise with plans for expansion.

Historically, Red Creek students have excelled in the student business pitch competition, securing top-three placements in 2022 and 2023. Previous winners include innovative concepts such as the Magnify App (deepfake detection), Nostalgia Energy (organic energy alternatives), and Earth’s Puzzle (community service rewards). Students are already preparing for the 2025 competition. While the 2024 event was postponed for reorganization, this delay allows for greater student participation and awareness.

Students also had the chance to network with leaders like Brian Pincelli, CEO of Wayne County Economic Development Corporation, and Assemblyman Brian D. Manktelow (130th District), who expressed interest in mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs.

This event not only celebrated entrepreneurial innovation but also provided students with valuable insights into the real-world potential of thoughtful business planning. Stay tuned for updates on Red Creek's next round of competitors!
