Career Center Students Explore Pathways in Technical Trades

Career Center Students Explore Pathways in Technical Trades

Students from the Red Career Center recently participated in an immersive field trip, exploring various career pathways in technical fields. The trip included visits to Monroe Community College’s (MCC) Automotive, Precision Machining, and HVAC programs, as well as the Rochester Arc & Flame Welding School and Wilbert’s Auto Recycling. These visits provided hands-on exposure to different trades and insight into the skills required for careers in these industries.

Hands-On Learning at MCC’s Automotive, Precision Machining, and HVAC Programs

At MCC, students engaged with instructors and current students to learn about training programs designed to prepare graduates for careers in automotive technology, precision machining, and HVAC. They observed the use of advanced diagnostic equipment in the Automotive Technology program, explored CNC machines in Precision Machining, and learned about the role of climate control systems in HVAC. These programs emphasize real-world applications, equipping students with industry-relevant skills.

Exploring Welding and Fabrication at Rochester Arc & Flame

At Rochester Arc & Flame Welding School, students got an up-close look at welding and metal fabrication training. Demonstrations of MIG, TIG, and stick welding highlighted the technical precision required in these trades. Instructors shared their industry experiences and explained the growing demand for certified welders in sectors such as construction and manufacturing.

Sustainability and Automotive Recycling at Wilbert’s

The final stop at Wilbert’s Auto Recycling showcased the environmental and economic impact of auto recycling. Students learned about the process of dismantling vehicles in an eco-friendly manner, salvaging reusable parts, and responsibly managing automotive waste. Discussions on sustainability underscored how recycling efforts contribute to resource conservation and reduce environmental impact.

Connecting Education to Career Opportunities

Throughout the field trip, students gained valuable insights into how technical education aligns with industry needs. Each visit provided a glimpse into career opportunities, reinforcing the importance of hands-on training and specialized skills. By bridging the gap between education and industry, experiences like this field trip help students make informed decisions about their futures in the skilled trades.
