Eighth-Grade Students Explore Future Opportunities at Career Carnival

It’s never too early to begin thinking about the future, and Red Creek Middle School eighth-grade students had the chance to dream big on a recent field trip.

On Thursday, September 25th, students attended the 2025 Career Carnival at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, where they learned about career opportunities available throughout the region. All Wayne County school districts are invited to participate in the Career Carnival.

“The Career Carnival is an incredible opportunity for our students,” said Brian Smiley, Middle School Principal. “With many local businesses and higher education partners in attendance, students left the event with a greater understanding of career fields they may not have otherwise considered.”

From identifying broken bones on an x-ray to operating a robot, the day was full of hands-on activities and demonstrations. Through rotations, students learned about possible careers in six categories: Arts and Humanities, Business and Information Systems, Engineering and Technology, Health Services, Natural and Agricultural Sciences and Human and Public Service.

By introducing eighth-grade students to a variety of careers, the Career Carnival helps them discover potential paths and make informed decisions about high school courses that align with their aspirations.
