October 24, 2022 - The dream is still very much alive for the Red Creek Varsity Boys Soccer team. The #1 seeded Mules defeated #9 Wheatland Chili 3-1 in the quarterfinals on Saturday night.

Playing on their home turf at the historic Hartley Field, the crowd was loud from the very start. The Mules took that energy and responded with a quick goal scored by Dan Sanzotta; Brayden Chambers had the assist.

All season long, the Mules displayed a high-octane offense, scoring an average of three goals per game this season. That stayed true on Saturday night with a second goal by senior Hunter Hicks, to give his team the 2-0 lead in the first half. “In the offseason when we started practice, they worked hard right from the get-go,” said Head Coach Tim McIntyre. “These guys just don’t ever give up and they did it again tonight.”

The Mules came out just as strong in the second half, scoring their third goal of the night off the leg of Gonzalo Dorado.

Goalie Tyler Cooper, backs Jace Brown, Adam Doll, Tyler Uruburu, and Hayden Hicks, and defensive midfielder Ethan Hanford held down the fort on the defensive end, giving up just one goal.

Red Creek now turns their focus to Marion in the Section V semifinals. “We just take it one game at a time and work hard,” said Coach McIntyre. “We’ll be out here on Monday and practice the same way we always do.”

The semifinals are slated for Wednesday, October 26th at Lyons High School. Start time is 7pm. You can purchase tickets online for $7.30. Cost at the gate is $8 cash. The game will also be livestreamed on Youtube. You can watch it by clicking here.
