Red Creek Students Excel at Oswego State Tech Wars 2026

Red Creek Students Excel at Oswego State Tech Wars 2026

Students from Red Creek Central School District once again demonstrated their talent and dedication at the annual Tech Wars competition on March 27, 2026 held at Oswego State University. The event brought together more than 200 middle and high school students from over 15 regional school districts for a day of hands-on STEM challenges.

Designed to give students the opportunity to apply classroom engineering and design concepts in a competitive, real-world environment, Tech Wars featured a wide range of events. Competitions included engineering and design challenges such as Balsa Bridge Design, Catapult Construction, and 3D CAD Skills; racing events like CO2 Dragsters, Air Racers, and Mousetrap Cars; and problem-solving activities including the Rube Goldberg Challenge and Cardboard Furniture Design. A highlight of the day was the ever-popular Cardboard Boat Regatta.

Red Creek has proudly participated in Tech Wars since its inception in 2007, consistently placing among the top three in multiple events each year. This year continued that tradition of excellence. Brian P. earned first place in the Air Racer competition, while Tiffany S. secured second place in the Cardboard Boat Race.

In addition to competing, students were given a comprehensive tour of the university’s technology facilities by longtime technology teacher Rick Durocher. Through these tours, Durocher aims to inspire students to consider pursuing higher education and careers in technology fields. Over the course of his tenure, more than 28 Red Creek students have gone on to complete technology programs at the college.

On the return trip, students had the opportunity to further explore career pathways with a visit to a local construction site led by a Red Creek alumnus, Gregg Brothers Construction. The stop provided valuable insight into real-world applications of the skills students are developing.

Experiences like Tech Wars play an important role in exposing students—especially young women—to a wide variety of career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and construction fields.

While the competition and learning experiences were the focus of the day, many students noted that one of the most memorable perks of the event was the free lunch provided to participants.

Red Creek Central School District remains committed to providing students with opportunities that encourage innovation, creativity, and exploration of future careers.
